Junior Primary

In the junior years, K-2, there is a particular focus on the explicit teaching and learning of foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Our students are encouraged to be risk takers in their learning and engage in higher-order thinking.

Core curriculum

Class room teachers are responsible for the learning areas of:

  • English
  • Mathematic
  • Science
  • Performing and Creative Arts (sensitive to Islamic principles)
  • Inquiry units which integrate the areas of geography, history, civics and citizenship.

Specialist Teachers

  • Qu’ran
  • Arabic language
  • Islamic Studies
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

Integration of learning areas is used where appropriate and Information Communication Technology (ICT) is integrated purposefully across the curriculum. Additionally, where appropriate and authentic, Islamic values and perspectives are embedded across our curriculum.

Reporting to parents on the progress of their child is spread over the school year. This takes the form of: bi-annual formal written report on progress against the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum; parent-teacher interviews; learning journeys; student portfolios and student led exhibitions. Interviews can be arranged at any time by parents or staff.
