The curriculum in classes from Year 3 is a natural progression from that experienced in Kindergarten to Year 2. There is a greater focus on students: taking risks with their learning; gaining more independence and using many visible thinking strategies to enhance their higher order thinking skills.
Core curriculum areas
The classroom teacher is responsible for
- Performing and Creative Arts (sensitive to Islamic principles)
- Inquiry units which integrate the areas of geography, history, civics and citizenship, and economics and business
- Arabic language
- Islamic Studies
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
Integration of learning areas is used where appropriate and Information Communication Technology (ICT) is integrated purposefully across the curriculum. Additionally, where appropriate and authentic, Islamic values and perspectives are embedded across our curriculum.
Reporting to parents on the progress of their child is spread over the school year. This takes the form of: bi-annual formal written report on progress against the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum; parent-teacher interviews; learning journeys; student portfolios and student led exhibitions.
Interviews can be arranged at any time by parents or staff.
