She is passionate about literacy development, including curricula and improving outcomes for students.

Julie understands the importance of relationships in education, and is strongly influenced by ‘discipline with dignity’, developing empathy, and students taking responsibility for their actions.  Continuous improvements in the happy, safe, supportive, and academically rich learning environment is a priority at Taqwa.

Julie is keen to develop strong communications with the local community is a priority.

Julie believes in order for children’s educational results to be strong in all subjects, the basics need to be right.  This includes strong literacy and numeracy skills.  This is from phonics in the early years, vocabulary, to understanding the complex meanings of the English language in the later years.  This needs to be balanced further by celebrating all subject areas.

School Community

Taqwa School has a Board of Governance that provides strategic direction to the School Management.

The Board is comprised of local Canberra residents who are committed to meeting the requirements of Muslim parents for quality education that incorporates Islamic Studies and values for their children. The members bring different sets of skills to the Board and provide input into the school strategy from different perspectives, such as building infrastructure, IT, law, risk management, business development, ethics, Islam, finance and accounting, etc. Our independence enables us to respond objectively and effectively to community needs.

Our current school Seikh is Ismail Jabi, who has over 20 years of experience working in schools in Australia. The Sheikh plays an integral role in the overall spiritual, pastoral and educational needs of our entire school community. Prayer and Qu’ran recitation is led by the School Sheikh each day in the Musallah. Students are also afforded the opportunity of leading prayer, whilst being guided by the Sheikh.

The chaplaincy program offers:

  • Spiritual and emotional support for all students, staff and community members, irrespective of faith
  • Educational support for staff in integrating Islamic values and principles through the curriculum
  • Support to our students on an informal basis, often during recess times and lunch breaks
  • Support and encouragement as our students develop intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually

The Sheikh works closely with the School Management and teachers to assist wherever possible and appropriate with students.

School Parents and Friends association are open for participation by community members who have an interest in the school and wish to add value to the establishment and functioning of a student-centred, family-focussed school.
