Principal’s Welcome

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

A very warm welcome to Taqwa School in North Canberra.  Taqwa is an Independent Australian School set in the Islamic tradition, catering for Kindergarten to Year 6 students.  We are committed to providing quality education using the Australian curriculum in an Islamic environment.  Inshallah, in the near future we will expand into Secondary Education.  We strive to provide quality Islamic Studies, Quran and Arabic classes to develop a complete person.

Alhumdulilah, I am blessed and honoured to join the Taqwa School team in its foundation stages, to support the creation of a successful Islamic school that is competitive Australia wide.  On this journey together, we will innovate to bring the latest education programs for life-long learning for your child.

Taqwa means being God-Conscious in our daily lives.  To remember Allah (SWT) in all our daily dealings.  Acquiring Taqwa is a process that takes time. At Taqwa School, we aim to increase Taqwa, Iman and Ihsan.  We intend to prepare Australian Muslims who are proud, successful, committed, compassionate, and productive in their Iman, community and chosen professions.  We prepare them to recognise, respect and celebrate cultural differences and diversity.  We aim to produce mature and responsible citizens of tomorrow, and prepare them for the hereafter.

In the education community, it is commonly said, that it takes a community to raise a child.   In my extensive experience as an educator, I am humbled by the unique community feel of Taqwa School.  I endeavour to embrace the dedication and commitment of the community to our advantage to support your children in their personal learning journey. Fostering a joint responsibility between home and school attributes to the success of the school.

I am proud to work with a team of sincere and dedicated staff who accept challenges and who are themselves keen learners.   Our dynamic teachers inspire students to excel and pursue their dreams.

I encourage and welcome you to explore our website and visit our School, to understand what makes Taqwa School so special.

Your sister in Islam,

Julie Ahmad

Julie has extensive experience teaching in both government and Islamic schools in Victoria.

Julie was a member of the Melbourne-based founding team that assisted the Taqwa School board secure registration in 2014.  She has an in depth understanding of the values and vision of the school. She is passionate about literacy development, including curricula and improving outcomes for students.

Julie understands the importance of relationships in education, and is strongly influenced by ‘discipline with dignity’, developing empathy, and students taking responsibility for their actions.  Continuous improvements in the happy, safe, supportive, and academically rich learning environment is a priority at Taqwa.

Julie is keen to develop strong communications with the local community is a priority.

Julie believes in order for children’s educational results to be strong in all subjects, the basics need to be right.  This includes strong literacy and numeracy skills.  This is from phonics in the early years, vocabulary, to understanding the complex meanings of the English language in the later years.  This needs to be balanced further by celebrating all subject areas.
